Bio
Baba grew up in rural Wisconsin where he started playing and writing music at the age of four. He studied at Interlochen Arts Academy and New England Conservatory before moving to NYC in 2003. He was recognized in Downbeat Magazine in 1999 for outstanding jazz piano performance and composition. Since then, Baba has spent eight years freelancing as a musical director for two non-profit children’s dance companies National Dance Institute and Celebrate the Beat.
He has recorded, performed, and toured internationally with various musical groups and performed genres of all kinds since 1998. Baba has recorded and played harmonium with the Brooklyn Qawwali Party since 2004. In 2006, he released, “I Pledge Allegiance to Myself” with Lizzie on Appleseed Records. Baba was co-host, producer, and creator of “This Abundant Life,” a web-cast that ran for 50 episodes to a devoted grassroots audience with his wife, Lizzie.
In 2010-2011, Baba was director/arranger/lead teacher for an American elementary school youth orchestral program based on the world renowned Venezuelan, El Sistema in Colorado.
In 2011, Baba and Lizzie moved to Hudson, NY where they are co-founding Camp Now Productions, a family entertainment company. Baba is also a composer, song-writer, illustrator, website designer, photoshop editor, music producer, video producer, and, most importantly, loving husband to his wife Lizzie and father to his daughter Louise.
